What?

7-Zip files are compressed file archives (also known as containers). 7-Zip not only opens smaller individual archives but also large archives that have been split into a set of smaller files that open into the larger archive. This is beneficial for those with lower bandwidth and/or can only download smaller file sizes at a time.

There may be instances where we provide you with 7-Zip files when working with backups of your data. Below are instructions on how to download and "unzip" your files.

How?

Download 7-Zip for free.  Click here to go to the 7-zip website. After your download is complete, click the downloaded file and then select Run. NOTE: If you are using a company-provided PC, you may need admin approval to install new programs.

Choose a Destination Folder and click Install. You'll see a progress bar as 7-Zip is installed. Click Finish once it's done. You're ready to work with your .7z files after the installation is complete.

• You may have just a single file or a collection of files. Either are opened using 7-Zip.

• If you received multiple files/disks from us, be sure to move them all to one folder on your computer.

To extract .7z files, right-click the first file (usually donated as .001 when working with a collection of files) to open your menu bar. To extract using 7-Zip, select "Extract All" from the menu or hover your cursor over the arrow to the right of "7-Zip" to expand your menu selection. Click "Extract files..." to open the Extract popup, where you will choose where you want to extract your files.

Click the ellipses (...) icon to the right of the Extract to: box. Browse for a location you want to extract the files to and make a new folder if you desire. NOTE: We do recommend that you create a specific folder for this purpose. You'll need to enter the password you received when you called in to support (800.206.5030 – Option 3), and click OK. Extraction of your data will begin. Once this is complete, you are ready to work with the files on your computer.
